Yao Hair Ceremony

We visited the town where the Yao minority lived, and got to see their hair ceremony. Basically it was watching the Yao women untie their long hair (and I mean LONG) and rewrap it around their heads. A Yao woman cut her hair only once in her life, and it was when she got married (I think...). She would tie up that hair, and wind it around with the hair that grew on her scalp. They also had another bunch of hair, which was basically a collection of all the loose strands.

We had to cross a suspension bridge...of course, John Park rocked it back and forth, freaking everyone out...

The Yao women unwind their hair...

The lady to the left had her hair covered by a cloth because she was still unmarried and so could not let anyone see her hair...

Cara (WildChina tour guide) and Hannah take a picture of us (we're on the bridge)
